Native Hawaiian Health Scholarship

To improve the health of Native Hawaiians, we provide scholarships to Native Hawaiians pursuing careers in primary and behavioral health disciplines.

These disciplines include:

  • clinical psychology,
  • dental medicine,
  • dental hygiene,
  • nutrition,
  • marriage and family therapy,
  • nursing and nurse midwifery,
  • nursing practitioner,
  • optometry,
  • pharmacy,
  • physician (allopathic or osteopathic),
  • physician assistant,
  • public health, and
  • social work.

If you receive a Native Hawaiian Health Scholarship (NHHS), we will fund your training in delivering culturally competent primary health care services to Native Hawaiians and disadvantaged people who live in underserved and rural communities in Hawaii.

What are the Scholarship’s benefits?

In return for your service, we will:

  • pay your tuition,
  • provide you with a monthly stipend, and
  • cover other related school costs.

You must perform a year’s service/employment in a medically underserved area within the state of Hawaii immediately after graduation/licensure for every year of funding you receive.

The program requires a minimum of two years and a maximum of four years of service.
