O’ Brien House

  • Residential Treatment
    • O’Brien House offers a 3 months comprehensive, multi-phase residential program based upon the American Society of Addictive Medicines (ASAM) Levels of Care criteria. This program utilizes cognitive-behavioral, rational emotive and motivational enhancement therapies and includes:
      • A structured environment with individual and group counseling by qualified professionals
      • Housing facilities for men and women
      • Nutritionally balanced meals
      • Involvement in Alcoholic’s Anonymous and other 12 Step Programs
      • Life Skills Program which includes career counseling, job readiness training and job placement assistance
  • Outpatient Treatment
    • O’Brien House offers a multi-level Outpatient Treatment Program to serve clients at the appropriate stage of recovery. Entrance to the program is based on an assessment to determine the severity of the addiction and the ability of the client to live independently. Classes are scheduled in the evenings to accommodate continued employment while receiving treatment.

      For individuals able to live without the structure of residential treatment, these programs allow them to remain productive citizens, employed and living with their families, while learning new skills to deal with their addiction. Clients can move from one level of treatment to another according to their progress.

      • ASEP Outpatient Program
        • Meets once a week for 2 hour sessions (6pm until 8pm)
        • Regular Drug Tests
        • Orientation every Monday at 4:30pm.
        • During orientation ASEP Coordinator will schedule client for Monday or Wednesday session.
      • Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
        Client Criteria to qualify for the Intensive Outpatient Program

        • Provide to O’Brien House or obtain from O’Brien House an ASI or Psychosocial Evaluation to determine appropriate level of care.
        • Current State License or ID with Photo
        •  Social Security Card
        • Income Verification
        • Negative drug screen
        • All prescribed medications must be approved
      • Outpatient Program (OP)
        The OP/aftercare is for clients who have established a period of sobriety and stabilized. This group builds on what the client have learned from the IOP program.

        • 4- 9 Week Course
        • Meets once a week for 1 – 1 1/2 hours

  • Prevention Programs
    • Services Offered
      • ATOD Information and Resource Center: Monday-Friday, 8:00AM -4:00PM Free printed information on alcohol and drug use designed to educate and inform specific segments of the community as well as the general population.
      • Video Lending Library: Monday-Friday, 9:00AM – 1:00PM Houses over 150 videos on Alcohol and Drug use and Prevention and Treatment modalities, that can be utilized as teaching resources for group and individual counseling sessions.
      • Sponsors Youth Drug Abuse prevention programs in collaboration with East Baton Rouge Housing Authority which focuses on the improvement of educational basic skills and character for youth ages 6 – 12 years of age.
      • Refers individuals to various agencies or facilities providing detoxification, outpatient treatment, long and/or short term in-patient treatments and aftercare programs.
      • Free condom distribution site.
    • Strengthening Families Program
      • This program is one of the most powerful family programs in the country, because it involves both parent and child. The program’s purpose is to improve family relations and parenting skill within the family unit, in addition to reducing high-risk behaviors among youth.
      • This is a drug prevention event thanking and encouraging youth for making good, healthy lifestyle choices such as saying no to drugs, staying in school, and respecting parents and adults. This festival also recognizes the national Red Ribbon program which honors the memory of DEA agent Enrique “Kiki” Camerena and his dedication in creating a drug-free America.I’m A Good Kid, Too Youth Festival
    • Single Mother’s Conference
      • This conference was designed as a new initiative that will provide information and services to single mothers and grandmothers in our family programs, community, and church organizations.
  • Adult Education
    • Adult Substance Education Program (ASEP)

      Adult Substance Education Program (ASEP), is a component of the East Baton Rouge Parish DWI Diversion Program directed by District Attorney Hillar Moore. Orientation is every Monday at 4:30 pm in the Reilly Building located at 446 N 12th Street. Clients must attend orientation to enroll into the program. At orientation, you can choose either a Monday or Wednesday evening class. Classes are held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the Reilly Building.

      Clients attend sessions for three (3) continuous weeks and submit to one (1) random urine drug screen during the three-week program.

      The total fee for the three-week program, including the one (1) urine drug screen, is $325.00 which is due by the final class session.

      Topics discussed during the six-week course include (but not limited to):

      • The difference between social drinking, binge drinking, alcohol abuse and alcohol dependence.
      • Family roles in addiction
      • Knowing your limit (BAC levels and Tolerance)
      • Effective decision making
      • Video and discussion on choices/consequences
      • Denial / Personal Responsibility / Responsible Decisions
  • Veterans Program
    • Support Groups
      Two confidential weekly groups, conducted by a licensed clinician, are available to discuss concerns and issues. Groups are Monday 6:00pm and Thursday 3:00pm at O’Brien House.
    • Case Management Services
      Case work is available to provide information and referral to community resources and services.
    • Creative Workshops
      Professionals will present multi-media workshops to help veterans explore creative means of expression.
