Sanctuary for Life is a program offered through Adoption and Maternity Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Baton Rouge.

Catholic Charities provides adoption services to children and families.

Services offered:

  • Sanctuary for Life is a maternity home program for pregnant, homeless women over the age of 18.
  • There are no fees associated with the Sanctuary for Life program. Residents are only asked to provide their own food. A fully equipped kitchen is provided for our residents’ use.
  • Assistance in applying for food stamps and Medicaid is provided.
  • The Sanctuary provides a structured environment allowing residents to set and achieve personal goals in work, school and life.
  • Daily support is given by our house managers while residents transition to independence.
  • Our services include transportation to doctor and hospital appointments, educational and vocational opportunities, and places of employment.
  • If desired, personal counseling is provided by a licensed social worker.
  • The Sanctuary is an adults-only program. There are no provisions for children at this time.
  • Services are provided to clients of all races and religious backgrounds.
  • Social workers will connect expecting parents to medical and community resources that will assist with pregnancy and parenting.
  • Counseling and maternity services are provided at no cost to the client.
  • Services are provided by licensed social workers with many years of maternity and adoption experience.
  • A supportive and empowering environment is provided for pregnant moms to make the best parenting plan they can for their child.
  • Counseling to explore adoption and parenting options is given in a pressure-free environment. Clients are never pressured to make an adoption plan.
  • Extended family members touched by the unplanned pregnancy and crisis are also welcome to access counseling services at the agency.
  • Fathers are encouraged and welcomed to also receive services.
  • Financial assistance to clients is considered on a case-by-case basis.
