Santa Maria is Texas’ largest multi-site residential and outpatient substance abuse treatment center and one of a very few to provide a comprehensive continuum for pregnant and parenting women and their children. Clients progress towards achieving improved mental and physical health, family functioning and economic stability that supports a drug- and violence-free lifestyle.  They have several different programs:

  • Co-Occurring Psychiatric and Substance Disorders Program (COPSD):  For clients battling co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders, the COPSD program provides integrated treatment to promote mental health stabilization. The services provided to an individual address both psychiatric and substance use disorders.
  • Court Liaison Services:  The Court Liaison program provides a link between Santa Maria, the client and either the courts and/or Family Protective Services (FPS). Through advocating on the client’s behalf, Santa Maria insures timely access to care, treatment and services when a woman is involved in the criminal justice system or the FPS system.  The client meets regularly with the court liaison to discuss court and/or FPS proceedings and to learn what is expected of her to disengage from the court system or to gain or retain custody of her child(ren).
  • Emergency Shelter:  Santa Maria’s emergency shelter for single women offers a short-term safe and secure environment for women in the Houston area who find themselves homeless or at the risk of becoming homeless or those fleeing domestic violence situations. The goal of the shelter is to serve as a bridge to assist residents in moving from an emergency situation to stable, appropriate housing.  For more information and admissions, please contact Lillie Durden at (713) 957-2413.  Ext. 1155
  • Outpatient Services:  Outpatient services are offered as a step-down or primary treatment option with an emphasis on relapse prevention and promotion of recovery within the community setting. Group, family, and individual sessions are offered as part of the program and childcare is available.  There are 3 locations of these services.  Please see the website for these locations (click on “Road to Recovery” then “Outpatient Services”).
  • Residential Detoxification:  A first step in recovery, this unique program is the only one of its kind in the region offering detoxification services to non-insured women and women with their children in residence.  Our medical staff monitors withdrawal from alcohol, sedatives and opiates. Women are encouraged to transition into residential treatment following detox.  Residential medical detoxification’s function is to medically supervise clients to assure their stability while weaning or “detoxing” from drugs or alcohol. In partnership with two physicians from the Baylor College of Medicine and nurses from Santa Maria, the detoxification program is staffed 24 hours a day/7 days a week.
  • Transitional Housing: Santa Maria Hostel’s Hope Housing Project is one of a very few housing resources with supportive transitional housing services for women and women with children in the Houston area.  Clients participating in the Hope Housing Project receive a comprehensive continuum of care to include stable housing, life skills, educational and vocational services, permanent housing assistance, case management, childcare, transportation assistance and a host of additional supportive services. The program promotes long term recovery through access to needed substance use disorder treatment and recovery supports.  Transitional housing is offered for a period of up to 12 months to provide time, education, information and skills to build a foundation of self-sufficiency, to prevent future homelessness, and increase success in permanent housing.
