Bay Area Habitat for Humanity

In Webster - Food and Shelter

Bay Area Habitat for Humanity is the only non-profit home builder in the Galveston, Southeast Harris and Northern Brazoria County area partnering with families to build quality, safe, affordable and energy efficient homes with zero percent interest mortgages.  To qualify you must have a legitimate need for housing. For example, broken plumbing, poor heating, leaks in the roof, overcrowding, unsafe or unsanitary conditions or dislocated as a result of a natural disaster.  Members of your household are required to give 300 hours of “sweat equity” towards building your home as well as other Habitat homes, and are also required to attend specific financial budgeting and homeownership courses. 150 of those hours must be completed before being assigned a specific house address.  Your family’s income must fall within a certain range.  Please see the website and click on “Homeowners” then “View Requirements”.  You can also complete a questionnaire on this page as the first part of your application process.  You can also see an application for Critical Home Repair which includes building wheelchair ramps, roof, plumbing, electric, weatherization, and other health and safety home repairs.  There is a long waiting period for repair work to be done.
