Catholic Charities of West Tennessee

Serving people of all ages and from all walks of life, Catholic Charities of West Tennessee (CCWTN), is the social services arm of the Catholic Diocese of Memphis. It is one of the largest nonprofit, multi-social service providers in the Mid-South. For more than 40 years, Catholic Charities of West Tennessee has provided services to those most in need in our community, with special emphasis in the areas of homelessness, children’s programming, immigration services, veteran’s services and emergency services.

Following the teachings of Jesus Christ, we provide help to those in need and bring them hope by supporting them on the path from poverty to self-sufficiency. Catholic Charities of West Tennessee serves our community’s most vulnerable regardless of religious beliefs, social or economic status, ethnic background or personal misfortune. Catholic Charities is not just for the Catholic Community, it is hope and service from the Catholic Community.

Driving The Dream:

Driving the Dream harnesses the power of the helping organizations in Memphis to support the poor on their path from poverty to self-sufficiency – achieving positive, permanent change in their lives.

Catholic Charities of West Tennessee is one of two care coordination hubs leading this approach in Memphis, designated and funded by the United Way of the Mid-South.

As a hub, Catholic Charities serves as the clients’ point of entry, the data tracking center and the follow-up service to ensure accountability by both the clients and the supporting agencies.

The care coordinator in each hub takes an in-depth look at the client’s goals and obstacles to reaching those goals and connects the client to the services they need. The long-term follow-up in this program supports the success of clients who may face hurdles on their path from poverty to self-sufficiency.

The financial gap between poverty and self-sufficiency is more than $30,000 annually for a family of four living in Memphis. A family of four living on $25,100 annually in Memphis lives in poverty. But to reach self-sufficiency, a family of four in Memphis needs an income of at least $57,852 annually, according to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Living Wage Calculator.

That is a difference of more than $30,000 per year, and that is the gap Catholic Charities seeks to close through Driving the Dream.
