Harris County Community Services Department
The Harris County Community Services Department offers the following services:
- Housing: The department offers a Downpayment Assistance Program (DAP) to those who are income eligible and a first-time homebuyer (or have not owned a house for 3 years prior to applying for assistance). Please see the website for income guidelines (click on “Housing and Community Development”, “Programs and Services”, then “Downpayment Assistance Program”. The department also has a Home Repair Program. You can call 1-713-578-2059 for more information and to request an application packet be mailed to you. The application should be returned to the Harris County Community Services Department, Attention: Home Repair Program. Please click on the “Resource Center” link to be redirected to a website that offers resources for finding housing and housing related financial assistance. Emergency utility assistance is available to clients when they have a termination notice. Please see the website eligibility information and an application for utility assistance (Click on “Social Services” and then the “Forms and Eligibility” tab). The department can also assist Harris County Residents who require emergency assistance for vacate/eviction notice.
- Veteran Services: This program offers veterans and their families assistance with the benefit application process.
- Burial Services: Free funeral home services and burial/cremation are offered to indigent individuals who passed away in Harris County. Burial is only provided at the Harris County Cemetery, at 21122 Crosby Eastgate Road. For further information call 1-713-696-1952.
