Housing Choice Voucher Program (formerly Section 8)
The Housing Choice Voucher Program (formerly Section 8) provides financial assistance, in the form of a voucher, to low-income families, for rental units of their choice in the private market. Program applicants can choose from a variety of housing options, including apartments, duplexes, single-family homes, and townhomes. The property owner must agree to rent under the Housing Choice Voucher Program. Participants of the program usually pay about 30% of their monthly income for rent. Eligibility is determined by household income (to view the specific income limits go to the website and click on “FAQs”). The program often gets so many applications that they stop accepting them for a period of time. Please call the number below to ask if they are currently accepting new applications.
For people already holding a Housing Choice Voucher the program may also be able to help them become a homeowner. Please see the website and click on “Housing Choice Voucher Homeownership Program” for further information and eligibility requirements.
