Houston Food Bank
The Houston Food Bank offers an array of services well beyond providing food. Below is a description of these services:
- Client Assistance Program (CAP): This program provides assistance with applying for SNAP (“food stamps”), TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) cash benefits, children’s Medicaid, CHIP (Children’s Health Insurance Program), and the Women’s Health Program. CAP’s main office is located at 535 Portwall, 77029, however, please call 1-832-369-9390 to see if they might be visiting a location near you. You can also call this number to get application assistance over the phone.
- Food assistance: The Houston Food Bank has an on-site emergency food pantry. They do require an appointment. Please call 1-832-369-9304 to schedule an appointment. Please see the website to see the hours of operation and the documents needed to use the food pantry (click on “Our Programs” and “Emergency Food Pantry”. The Houston Food Bank also has a program called “Food for Change” which only assists with low-income participants in job training programs, community college, etc. They are awarded with a food scholarship–they receive a voucher card that they can redeem for groceries during visits twice each month to designated scholarship food pantries strategically located near clients throughout the Houston area. A participant can receive up to 60 pounds of healthy food.
