Magnificat Houses offers the following services:

  • Meals:  They operate Loaves & Fishes, a large soup kitchen in downtown Houston where 200 to 300 of Houston’s chronically hungry gather six days a week for nutritious, hot, home-cooked lunches cooked by our staff and served by volunteers. There is no cost and no requirement.  Loaves & Fishes is located just east of Minute Maid Park, at 2009 Congress Avenue (the corner of Congress and Chartres streets). The lunch line begins forming around 10:30 a.m. for service beginning at 11 a.m. They are closed Mondays.
  • Emergency shelter for women:  Myriam’s Hostel, our no-cost emergency women’s shelter, welcomes up to seven guests for stays from one to three nights. Intake is between 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. daily. Admission is on a first come, first served basis, no questions asked, until the beds are full. We offer guests a clean dorm bed, a hot shower, clean pajamas, a hot dinner and breakfast. Guests must leave by 7:00 a.m. and must return during intake hours the same day. After completing a three-day stay, guests may return after 30 days, if needed. Please call (713) 224-1373 for more information.  The website does not disclose the address of the women’s shelter–please call.
