South Central Alliance of Churches
The South Central Alliance provides financial assistance to residents of zip codes 76104, 76109, and 76110. They provide the following specific types of assistance.
- Financial Assistance: They provide one-time emergency help with rent, utility bills and prescription medication (no narcotics or painkillers). Their utility assistance is for individuals and families experiencing recent verifiable, sudden job loss or loss of income, change in income or benefits, a medical emergency or similar situation that prevents them from meeting their financial obligations. Please call and be prepared to discuss your current income and household budget, including all monthly bills and expenses. If given an appointment for assistance you will need a photo I.D., social security cards for each member of the household, rental agreement or lease ( proof of address), proof of income (pay stubs, disability or other award letter ), all of your current utility bills. Their maximum rental assistance is $300 and our maximum utility assistance is $150. They can not provide assistance in situations where the assistance will not prevent eviction or shut off. - Transportation Assistance: They provide gasoline vouchers and bus passes for the purposes of work, job interviews, medical appointments and appointments with other social service providers. They will verify the appointment. This assistance is provided on a walk-in basis, however each client must provide a photo I.D. and current proof of address (mail within the last 30 days with name and address or rent receipt with lease or rental agreement). Client must have a valid Texas Driver’s license for a gasoline voucher.
- Self Preservation: They provide food, clothing, hygiene kits, and diapers. This assistance is provided on a walk-in basis, however each client must provide a photo I.D. and current proof of address (mail within the last 30 days with name and address or rent receipt with lease or rental agreement).
- Thanksgiving program: Clients have the opportunity to receive a turkey and food basket for Thanksgiving dinner ($5.00 fee). Information about this program is made available prior to the holiday season.
